For the Love Of a Child

RCN SC049284, Dundee

We support children and families who have suffered with trauma, loss and their mental health and well being by using our dramatherapy programmes which allows the children to process their emotions / trauma.

Donna Jennings, a mother from Scotland, has just returned from working in the city of Antakya in Turkey that was devastated by the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake

Donna's son died when he was five years old which led her to set up a charity called For the Love Of a Child (FLOC) in his memory.  The Dundee charity uses dramatherapy to aid children and their families who have suffered with trauma, loss and their mental health and wellbeing.  The charity has delivered projects in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and India. The charity also works with refugees in the UK and runs projects in schools across Dundee.

She heard heart breaking stories from children who were traumatised as they were wrapped up in blankets by their parents and thrown out of windows in an effort to save their lives as the buildings collapsed around them.  Many children lost members of their families, one little girl was the only survivor out of her family of eight.  She was three and a half years old.

Having seen the devastation Donna is now raising funds for a van that will be used as a mobile therapy unit which will deliver dramatherapy / stories / and play to children in the IDP (Internally Displaced People) camps around Antakya.  The aim is to allow the children to process their trauma in a safe way so they can heal after such a devastating event.

The charity will train up local Turkish speaking children's workers on the ground, the aim will be to work in several camps a week working with around 150 children per week.

All your donations will be spent on this specific project, we are a small team so keep our core costs as low as possible.  By donating you will be supporting children who have gone through the most devastating traumatic experience.  We couldn't do this work without you, so thank you all so much.
