The ongoing war has devastated Ukraine, most recently resulting in massive explosions of the Nova Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine and threatening downstream villages. Towns in parts of the Kherson area are flooded and there has been severe damage to the hydroelectric station that the dam powers. Further consequences may turn out to be catastrophic — help is needed now.
The situation is critical both in Ukrainian-controlled parts of the area and the left bank of the river — currently occupied by the Russian army. Mass evacuation is underway, with (hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands?) people trapped right now without access to food, drinking water or medication. Portable water purification devices are vital to sustain a constant supply of clean drinking water for those stranded.
Russian Democratic Society is raising £10,000 to provide humanitarian aid for the region. We are urgently raising funds for portable water purification devices.
