Every year we are told that '1 in 2 people will get cancer' that's 50% of the population - but you never think it is going to be you.

There is never a good time to be told you have cancer, however,  being diagnosed at the time of a global pandemic has got to be one of the worst.  Going through cancer without being able to see my friends and family was very hard so, I told a handful of people...everyone had enough to worry about.  

Having said this, I cannot believe how supremely luck I have been to have been treated during Covid when operating theatres were closing up and down the country.

About Me

A pulmonary embolism, two cancers and 3 surgeries later, I would like to bring about something positive from my experience. In light of this, I am fundraising to raise money to enable the Liverpool Women Hospital to purchase a laser which will be life changing for a lot of women suffering from the side effects of cancer surgery. I used to think that surviving cancer surgery was biggest hurdle, however, now I know, this is only the start for many people. Your quality of life can be significantly diminished post surgery.

 Hysterectormies,  Peri- Menopause, Menopause and Surgical Menopause

Thousands of women in the above states suffer from vaginal atrophy related symptoms, dryness, burning, UTIs and pain during intimacy. In a lot of cases - especially hormonal cancers (e.g. breast cancer, ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer) HRT is not an option. 

This treatment is only available privately and is VERY expensive. 

The MonaLisa Laser

The laser gently acts on your vaginal walls through a special scanner, creating indistinguishable micro-lesions that are required for triggering the production of new collagen, which is the main protein found in structural tissue. The laser’s action safely and painlessly reactivates the proper function of the vaginal structures, while also improving the symptoms associated with mild urinary incontinence. A tissue regeneration process lasting several weeks is triggered. Stimulation occurs immediately and improvements can be seen after the first treatment. This minimally invasive, painless procedure is usually completed in five minutes.

Cost

The hospital have been quoted of £50K for a refurbished laser and I have been tasked with raising £25K of this amount (as it was my idea!). This treatment is currently only available privately and costs a small fortune and I cannot stress enough how life changing it can be for women who have gone through hormone related cancers.
