Sadly an accident happened whilst raising money for charity. There will be significant costs in her recovery. Any donations humbly received.

This summer Millie & Willam, two of our Shire horses, and Boo Boo embarked on a 3-week journey pulling a trail wagon to raise money for three charities... Police Care UK (34%), the Royal Air Forces Association (33%), and the Samaritans (Gloucester, Cheltenham, Worcester, and Hereford branches) (33%).

Sadly an accident happened and Millie ended up on a car bonnet with her leg through the windscreen.

Millie is clinically stable but battered, bruised and very stiff. Her deep wounds on her chest and front right leg will take time to heal. Her rear right foot suffered a deep trauma and she will have to learn how to re-use that foot properly over the coming months due to significant tendon damage.

We are very much hoping to bring her home on Monday but that decision will be made on the day in consultation with the hospital vets.

We are already in communication with Hannah from Vet Physio UK about her rehabilitation. Claire from Chaseview Veterinary Clinic, who has been Millie's vet since she was a foal, is ready to continue with Millie's care once she's home.

She is quite a lucky girl, all things considered. This could easily have proved to be a far worse situation for everyone involved.

We are very grateful to everyone for all the comments, concern, and good wishes we have received. We are also humbled to have received offers of financial help towards her recovery costs. Whilst Jamie and the Shires have full commercial insurance, we will need to finance her recovery ourselves privately. We can cover this, but any help towards them would be very much appreciated.

We don't know how much her recovery will cost us. The first few nights in hospital is likely to be £2,500. We will then have ongoing care by vets and physios, as well as the medications she will require.

To allow people to donate towards her recovery, we have thus set up this donation page. Any penny donated to Millie that is above and beyond her needs will be transferred to the charities. You have our word on this.
