We are a busy Riding Centre! Over half our riders have a disability. Just getting to know horses brings so much pleasure. We have an amazing team of volunteers and Riding Instructors and lovely ponies. Everyone is welcome. All abilities, young and old. We have run for 50 years, relying always on the kindness of others.
Who we help:
We support and interact with children, young people and vulnerable adults. We support, for example, those mental health issues, physical disabilities, visual and hearing impairment, additional education needs, depressed, chronic and other longterm conditions, and the lonely and isolated.
We benefit many organisations including special schools and colleges, local scout groups, other local charities; and for individuals offer work experience and placements including DofE, Vet students, and recently appointed an Apprentice linked with Myerscough College.
What is said about us:
Rider J: “My son is profoundly disabled, non-verbal and requires full care. He cannot be entertained with craft, books and games. He loves riding. Just having a focus for the day, something to get up for is massive. Leaving the house and listening to him laugh once he realises where he is going makes my day. So you can see how important this is for both him and me.”
Local Resident: "The Centre has become after 50 years and integral part of village life and had a warm and harmonious relationship with residents for years. The sound of hooves and laughter from the volunteers leading groups to and from the stables is one of the delights of living in Holcombe."
