Addressing well-being issues, combating social isolation, and supporting social prescription and physical health in outdoor environment

by Pip Langdown in Bridport, Dorset, United Kingdom

It all started with a personal bump in my life back in 2021 that really made me take a step back and reflect on what truly matters. You see, I've been incredibly fortunate to live and work amidst the beauty of nature and when you have a dream, you can't just let it slip away, no matter how big or small!

I made up my mind to give something back and share the joy of farm life with people from all walks of life. That's when two passionate individuals and I joined forces to bring to life the Merry Moos Farm Project. We kicked things off on June 30th, 2021, when we officially became a community interest company (CIC). Not-For-Profit.

This year was the first year that farms started to come to the market after many months of searching, for that farm that could achieve the goals Merry Moos so much wanted to provide, we have found one in West Dorst.

Every single penny we raise will go straight towards the 30% we would need to assist in the purchase of a farm which has now been idenifield in Dorset.

Why, you ask? Well, we want to make a positive impact on people's well-being issues, combating social isolation, supporting social prescription and physical health, and creating a safe haven for all.

Well-being issues can affect anyone at any time in their lives.

By providing a variety of outdoor activities to allow the clients the opportunity to get involved in.

Who's in the spotlight for our care? Well, we've got older adults (ages 60-85 plus) who are often overlooked but still have so much life to offer. We're also looking to help individuals with disabilities, Adults with learning disabilities, ex-service personnel, exectives and their employees who have been grappling with their own well-being challenges since Covid hit our shores.

we would be creating a delightful market garden, complete with accessibility features that cater to everyone's needs.

A wildlife area to help local birds and furry critters thrive. Native and fruit trees will join the party, and clients can get their hands dirty, planting and nurturing these green wonders,  we're putting up bird boxes.

The farmhouse is the heart and soul of our community. Hot or cold drinks a light snack. Absolutely! It's a place where clients and volunteers can gather, share stories, and forge unforgettable connections.

There just aren't enough services out there, and those that exist are overwhelmed. We're not here to duplicate. We're here to fill a vital gap and make a genuine impact.

There's one more piece to this incredible puzzle: our dream of creating a thriving large animal sanctuary. We've seen the magical effect that a simple pat or hug can have on individuals facing well-being challenges. Meet Molly and Polly, who are a poster pin ups girls, on the front page our two adorable pet pigs yearning for a loving forever home who are currently being cared for in Devon by a lovely forset mum. And they won't be alone. We'll open our arms to other animals in need, offering them a safe haven filled with love and care.

And here's the best part: we need YOU, passionate volunteers from our local community, to join us on this awe-inspiring journey.

So, let's bring joy, laughter, and a whole lot of farm magic into the world together. Merry Moos Farm Project CIC is counting on YOUR support to make a difference that will warm hearts for years to come!
