What you will be doing
As a volunteer mentor you would help a young person to realise their full potential by listening to them and encouraging them. This would take place in a school in Surrey. We are looking for mentors in : Guildford, Ash, Redhill, Horley, Sunbury and Hinchley Wood.
The relationship that develops is what makes the difference. Can you help a young person to build their confidence and discover their potential?
Our mentors volunteer:
- For 1 hour each week
- During term time
- For at least 1 year
- Receive full training and ongoing support.
What we are looking for
Mentors and young people are carefully matched based on their likes, personality and life-experiences. Everyone is different, so we look for mentors from all walks of life. When one person mentors, two lives are changed.
We say that if you care, you qualify! If you are good at listening and keen to make a difference, you can mentor. No prior specific experience is required, we will provide excellent training and on going support.
You will be a caring, positive, consistent adult , a supportive friend, a role model, and a trustworthy listening ear.
Our mentors are:
- Empathetic and kind
- Open minded and non judgemental
- Friendly and approachable
- Understanding and patient
- Committed and reliable
We are sure that you will also find the role incredibly rewarding whilst also developing your skills in active listening and empathy.
What difference this will make
Supporting young people in the UK has never been more important. Through no fault of their own, care-experienced and young people facing challenges are affected by a significant gap in outcomes compared to their peers. They aren’t reaching their potential—but mentoring can change that.
By volunteering as a mentor you really can transform the life of a young person who is facing challenges. Just one hour a week with a consistent, caring adult can boost a young person's confidence, academic performance and open doors to a brighter future.
Together, we can help create a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive. Join MCR Pathways today and be the change in a young person’s life!
