Hello,

My name is Caitlin Trainer. I'm a second year medical student from London. This summer, I am going to Ghana with my medical school and the Global Brigades charity to provide medical aid to those in need. This will include health checks, contraception help, minor injury aid and much more. I will be using the valuable skills I have learnt during my course and attempting to help as many people as possible - not just in the moment, but setting up resources for the future such as water wells and education.

Global Medical Brigades is an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. In conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals.

To improve access to healthcare, we partner with the Ghanaian government to provide mobile medical clinics that take place in public Ministry of Health clinics. In addition to providing consultations and medications, these clinics also provide public health education workshops and promote the National Health Insurance Scheme. For economic development, we collaborate with both private and government organizations to create jobs by promoting and expanding local businesses, and to support community-owned banks that provide access to loans while re-circulating loan repayments back into the community bank for future loans. To combat common illnesses such as diarrhea, parasites and cholera, we also work with communities, the Ghana Water Company, Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), and other partners to construct pour-flush toilets, hand-washing stations and potable water systems.

I need to raise money in order to go, for the equipment, expenses and the resources required to help people.

Any donations are greatly appreciated! I have been fundraising for around a year now alongside my studies, doing bake sales, car washes and TFL trips.

However, due to my busy medical school schedule, I have no yet raised enough and so donations would be incredibly helpful.

Kind regards and have a great day!

Caitlin
