'Meat Cute', the Offest finalist and critically acclaimed one-woman comedy, will perform at the prestigious Gilded Balloon at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023.
We are over the moon to be invited to bring 'Meat Cute' to Edinburgh Fringe for the full duration of the festival and this is an excellent opportunity for Patch Plays as a company to grow its audiences and platform. This will be our biggest endeavor as a company yet!
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Lena is on a mission to veganise her tinder dates. What could possibly go wrong? 14 days later, a broken family, a Pomeranian named Mozart and an eviction notice, is this rebellion or simply a cry for help?
”Meat Cute” asks: how does a 25-year-old woman navigate a world governed by masculinity and violence, and, how far is too far?
Multi-rolling 10 characters, accompanied by a soundtrack of Meghan the Stallion, ‘Meat Cute’ is bright, very pink, will make you belly laugh and will certainly make you think.
Written and performed by Bibi Lucille and directed and produced by Anastasia Bunce, this is a family duo project and has been in development for three years now, having performed at Chiswick Playhouse, Camden Fringe, the Bread and Roses in 2021 and Vault Festival in March 2023. We have received wonderful reception from audiences who have enjoyed and found the show entertaining, as well as receiving amazing 5 and 4 star reviews from publications like West End Best Friend, North West End, London Pub Theatre and more. We can't wait to share it with more people at Edinburgh!
To get to Edinburgh we need your help! Our entire budget for the festival is £5250. What does this entail?
£3k hire fee for the Gilded Balloon: The Gilded Balloon is one of the most popular and prestigious venues, hosting comedy and theatre. Performing at this venue will enable us to invite high-profile industry and producers to the show in our ambition to transfer to London for a full run. We have to pay in two installments of £1100.00 by May and £2028.00 by June. The remainder will be taken from ticket sales.
£550 for Licenses:
Edinburgh Registration: £350
Public Liability Insurance: £100.00
Music PRS: £100.00
£2k Marketing costs: £1300 to advertise a 1/4 advert in the fringe programme. This will help us reach wide audiences to reach our target for ticket sales to break even and meet the venue costs). The remaining £700 will pay for posters, flyers and social media paid advertising which has been proven to engage audiences specifically interested in sustainability, veganism and comedy.
With over 3,000 shows going to the Fringe, without a serious marketing campaign, there is no way we are going to meet our target ticket sales to break even.
Why does 'Meat Cute' matter?
Every little really does help and goes a long way. We believe 'Meat Cute' is an important show as it sparks conversations in audiences surrounding the climate emergency, animal welfare, and our individual actions in how we can save the future of our planet. This is an incredible opportunity to inspire audiences at Edinburgh to consider their own involvement and actions in response to the climate emergency and to inspire positive change. At the heart of our theatre company, Patch Plays, is our ambition to inspire our audiences to consider the importance of the climate and animal welfare. This is also an incredibly exciting opportunity as artists to grow our profile and company to move forwards in our goal of transferring to London. Any way in which you can help us will be invaluable, whether that's donating £5 or sharing the crowdfunder.
