Help Us Resurface the Meanwood Park Playground!

Hi everyone!

Our beloved local playground—also known as the basketball pitch at Meanwood Park—has been a source of joy for countless children over the years. But today, the surface is worn out, riddled with potholes, and often floods, making it uncomfortable and unsafe for kids of all ages.

In 2024, a group of dedicated parents and staff members from Meanwood CE Primary School came together to raise funds to resurface the playground and improve its drainage. This upgrade is more than just a repair—it’s an investment in a safe, enjoyable space where children can exercise, learn, and explore.

Play spaces with good surfaces and drainage provide numerous benefits across physical, social, and environmental dimensions. Physically, they reduce the likelihood and impact of trips, slips, and falls, keeping children safer during play. Socially, they promote active lifestyles, foster community bonding, prevent crime by creating engaging spaces, and enhance accessibility for people of all abilities. Environmentally, they prevent water accumulation, which can attract pests and degrade the area, ensuring the playground remains clean and functional.

This appeal isn’t only for the school—it’s for the entire community. Outside school hours, the playground is open to everyone, making it a vibrant space for families to gather and children to grow.

The Challenge:
The resurfacing and drainage costs £32,000. While Leeds City Council fully supports the School’s initiative, they are unable to provide financial assistance. The School has already hosted various fundraising events—like the Colour Run—but we still have a way to go to reach the final goal.

How I’m Helping:
My name is Ieva Eskytė, and I’m proud to be part of the wonderful Meanwood community. To support this initiative, my six-month-old baby and I will walk 70 miles between now and Christmas. Our goal is to raise at least £150 to contribute towards the total amount needed to bring this much-needed transformation to life.

How You Can Help:

  • Donate: Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to making the playground safe and comfortable again.
  • Share: Spread the word to friends, family, and neighbours to rally more support.

Let’s work together to bring smiles and safety back to our kids and our community!

Thank you for your kindness and support!
