Matt’s 44 mile Ultramarathon for The Wave Project

5 years ago, I found out I had an acute genetic blood condition, and I lost my flying career overnight. A year later, I caught a virus which left me with acute asthma.

Back in October, I could hardly run 500m. Since October, I’ve run over 500 miles with over 14,000m of ascent.

On 20th May, I’m going to run a 44 mile ultramarathon from Lizard Point in Cornwall to Land’s End, called the Endurance Life Classic Quarter.

But I’ve never run a marathon, let alone an ultramarathon…

I'm running to raise money for The Wave Project, a surf therapy charity helping vulnerable young people through the power of the ocean. I have just completed 6 volunteering sessions as a surf mentor for The Wave Project, helping young people not just to catch waves, but giving them newfound smiles and confidence, and it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
