Any extra money I raise will go towards the album's CD and vinyl production and distribution costs.
My name is Matthew Kilner, I am a saxophonist and composer from Aberdeen, Scotland. This year on the 26th of August, I will be entering Castlesound Studios to record my debut album alongside some of Scotland's finest jazz musicians including; Alyn Cosker, Paul Harrison, Ewan Hastie and Paul Towndrow. The music in this album has been heavily inspired by Aberdonians, the North-East and its landscape.
Crowdfunder donations
Through donations and rewards, I am hoping to raise £2000 which will go towards some of the mixing and mastering costs of the album. There are many different expenses that must be considered when creating an album from recording costs to the production of physical CDs.
The music
The music was inspired by Aberdeen and the northeast of Scotland. I was lucky enough to spend the first 25 years of my life growing up in the northeast so I have seen how the stunning coastal environment, the rich cultures and traditions and the eclectic mix of locals have impacted Aberdeen’s arts scene. I have been a part of the Aberdeen music scene my entire life and I feel that now is the time to share my interpretation of the music that has impacted me.
The band
The band will feature some of Scotland's top musicians, I am extremely excited to lead this collection of musicians.
Alyn Cosker has been an inspiration to me for many years. From some of my first live experiences of jazz music up until the most recent gigs I've seen Alyn continues to amaze and inspire me with his musicality and inventiveness. He's also the most humble musician that I have ever met.
Paul Harrison is a musician with whom I finally had the pleasure of playing last year. Paul can turn a tune inside out with his knowledge, creativity and listening. I knew I would love to continue working with him from the moment we first played together.
Ewan Hastie is also a musician I've had the pleasure of knowing for many years. Ewan is without a doubt one of the most talented and hardworking musicians that I know. He's the most swingy bass player that I've ever played with and I can't wait to hear him in this new band.
Paul Towndrow will feature on one very special track on the album. Paul is a bit of a saxophone hero of mine. His music and mentorship have been a guiding light for me recently and it feels very special to me that he will be playing on the album.
