We are Maslow Housing Cooperative, a newly incorporated entity now ready for action!

Our community hub will soon be located at 5 Harold Place in Hastings Town Centre, our mission is to harness the power of creativity and community to transform lives. Our hub is a vibrant space dedicated to supporting neurodiverse and hard-to-reach artists and all community members supporting them whist fostering the skills and talents of local fishermen through innovative ropework, knots, recycling furniture and fashion projects. With your help, we can turn our vision into reality by creating an inclusive environment where creativity can thrive.
Supporting Neurodiverse Artists
Our studio will serve as a sanctuary for neurodiverse artists, providing them with the tools and space they need to express themselves and develop their craft. By soundproofing the rehearsal area, we will create a safe and focused environment where artists can work without distraction, collaborate, and ultimately produce their art. This space will not only help them hone their skills but also build confidence and community connections.
Fashion, Rope and Knot Collaboration with Local Fishermen
In addition to supporting artists, we are excited to offer a creative den for local fishermen to explore fashion design, rope work, knots, sewing machines and furniture recycling and upcyclingll. With the guidance of Central Saint Martins lecturers, these talented individuals will learn to create unique clothing pieces using sewing machines. This initiative not only preserves traditional skills but also opens new avenues for creative expression and economic opportunities in the community.
Wellbeing Workshops and Cafe
Maslow Community Hub is designed with the holistic well-being of our community in mind. Our café will provide a welcoming space for individuals to enjoy a cuppa or lunch while connecting with others. We will also host self-help workshops themed around Maslow's hierarchy of needs, focusing on mental health, personal growth, and community support. These workshops aim to empower individuals and foster a sense of belonging. We will hold cultural food events focusing on food from around the world and showcasing a diverse range of guest chefs.
A Call for Community Support
While we have made significant strides, we have a long way to go. The kitchen and workshop spaces are currently empty, and we need the community's help to furnish our hub with second-hand or repurposed furniture. We are seeking to raise awareness of the housing crisis and create a functional, welcoming environment for all.
Our Mission: Housing for Those in Need
Founded by neurodiverse advocate and activist Sharon Lisa Rhodes, Maslow Community Hub is part of a Maslow Housing Cooperative. Every bit of profit generated will go towards supporting individuals in need by saving for deposits to secure housing cooperative mortgages. Our goal is to take over large houses where our members can live and thrive together reaching their highest potential possible.
By visiting our hub, attending a workshop, or simply enjoying a meal at our café, you are directly contributing to addressing the housing crisis in Hastings. Your support will help us create a nurturing environment where creativity flourishes and community bonds strengthen. The greater these studios succeed the more we can raise towards property.
Join Us in Making a Difference
We invite the people of Hastings to rally together and support Maslow Community Hub. Together, we can build a space where creativity, learning, and community support come together to uplift those in need.
Please consider donating to our crowdfunder and help us reach our goal. Every contribution brings us one step closer to creating a vibrant community hub that will benefit everyone.
The direct beneficiaries will be those in poor housing where we aim to teach exactly what we’ve done where our community get the choice to join our housing cooperative or start their own. Housing Cooperatives are fairly unheard of in our town but we are here to change that. They are exempt from HMO licensing meaning you can co own large houses with your community and networks.
Thank you for your support!
