We are an open and affirming congregation serving the parish of Markinch and Thornton in Fife, Scotland that welcomes all people. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, whatever your background or history, whether you are a regular church attender, or searching for something, you are welcome within our faith family and everyone is welcome to attend any service or event within our community. We are a community who believe in asking questions, we know that this is just as important as finding answers. Here faith is celebrated and nurtured, and doubts can be shared. We try to be a place where people feel comfortable coming as they are and as God has made them to be. We try to grow together in a way that pleases God and makes our lives and the lives of those around us better. Even though there has been a place of worship on the site of the Parish Church in Markinch for at least a thousand years and possibly for considerably more, we are always looking forward as well as celebrating our past. The Youth Church at Markinch and Thornton Parish is dedicated to empowering young people to take ownership of their involvement in the church. With a range of activities and services, including Sunday mornings, coffee mornings, and youth club, there’s something for all ages. The Holiday Kids Club and volunteer opportunities also provide ways for young people to get involved and make a difference. We’re all about the youth in our community, offering a range of exciting ways for kids and teens to connect with the church. We want young ones of all ages to feel empowered and take the reins when it comes to their church and how they want to be involved. One clever young person came up with the Youth Church’s tag line, “Becoming the Change,” which perfectly captures their attitude towards the church and their role in it. From the littlest ones on Sunday mornings, playing with toys and munching on snacks, to the curious Kids Club members exploring every nook and cranny of the church grounds, to the spirited debates among our senior youth on issues that matter to them, we’re all about giving them the freedom to explore, question, and take ownership. Within our busy, vibrant and varied community we have several buildings, some of significant historical value, and some which look less impressive, but house the beating heart of our community. We work hard to provide our wider community with safe, warm and welcoming spaces in which they can work, relax, have fun, worship and learn. By supporting our community, you will be helping us to keep these spaces open and functional in addition to helping us move forward to the future by developing our plans to improve them to better serve our wider community, not just our faith community. We especially want to keep developing and improving our spaces to ensure that we can keep growing our offering to the young people in our wider community and support them to develop skills and achieve their dreams for the future.
