Marias Animal Shelter

RCN 1147719, Truro

Marias Animal Shelter is based in Cornwall. We rescue, treat and re-home abandoned, injured, neglected and unwanted animals. Most of our animals are small domestic pets and our aim is to neuter, vaccinate all the animals in our care and prepare them for a new forever home. Any animal unable to leave due to medical or behavioral reasons will stay with us for life. Education is also very important to us and we distribute material about animal welfare and also provide training for volunteers, school groups and students at the Shelter. We have been running the Shelter for 20 years and help up to 250 animals a year, we rely completely on the generosity of people who support our work and together we will make sure an animal in need is never turned away.

Marias Animal Shelter

In the beginning.

Maria Mulkeen set up this charity 20 years ago as there was nowhere in the area for abandoned or suffering animals to be homed. In order to keep the Shelter open and running she and a team of dedicated volunteers attend community events and hold activities to bring in funds.  Of course during COVID this has not been possible and Maria will struggle to cover all the costs of the Shelter this year.  The Shelter reaches out to people as well as animals, over the last two years many people have seen their income reduced and have not been able to afford to keep their animals. Maria takes animals when their owners cannot keep them, she helps with their care and it has been a great comfort to people struggling to know their animals are safe.

Any support at this time would be welcome and will be spent directly on caring for the animals - our animal food bills alone are around £800 a month. All donations prevent suffering and enable rescued animals to live free of pain. We would be so grateful for your support, we are determined to continue our work and with your help we will be able to reach every animal in need and give it the love and care it deserves.
