If I can raise more money, then a new secure door can be manufactured locally and installed, a suitable stand can be made for the TV and any subsequent equipment needed - and mango trees (with goat protection) can be planted around the building for shade and community fruit. The walls can also be painted.
The Skydive has now happened! Many thanks to all who have supported this challenge! It was cold and scary up there, but to help our friends in Genieri it was worthwhile. Left is the room which the village wants to refurbish and re-use as a Community Room
The town of Yate and the rural village of Genieri in the Gambia have been linked for some 36 years, and we, in Yate, have been able to support the villagers not only during times of hardship but also to help build a thriving and sustainable community,
Alongside the Primary School and the Women’s Vegetable Gardens, we have established a Primary Healthcare Centre where a part-time community nurse can administer basic treatments and simple medicines.
THE PROPOSED COMMUNITY CENTRE will provide a pleasant place for village groups to get together (especially in the rainy season) to give health information, to administer children's vaccinations, to celebrate family occasions, to share TV programmes (a TV, the only one in the village, has already been donated) to project family-style films. (The Alkalo (head man) has said 'no violence')
