Aim: Help MARIA - a play by Neféli get to Edinburgh Fringe 2025!
MARIA - a play by Neféli is a dance-theatre piece that explores Mary Magdalene's misused identity. The sum of vague references of her name in the Bible, as well as the blatant decision to conflate a bunch of other Mary's mentioned, resulted in multiple versions of Mary Magdalene's story: none of them true. MARIA explores the tropes associated with the iconic symbol and vital half of the ever-relevant duo of Madonna-Wh*re that has defined and dictated feminity since, well, one could say the beginning of time (if by "time" they meant the patriarchy). Sex worker, devoted wife, holy disciple, or completely out of her mind, there is literally one for every woman. But which was Mary?
