This project successfully funded on 1st December 2024, you can still support them with a donation.

Aim: SARDA is one of those agencies that any of us could need in an emergency and they rely on public support to keep them going.

Yikes! I am going to run the NEWPORT marathon (26.2 miles) on April 13th 2025. It is several years since my last one. I spend most of my day sat behind a desk! But I was inspired to do another marathon following conversations with my CCBC colleague, Mark, meeting his lovely dogs, and hearing about the rescues that they are involved in.

We also talked the financial climate in which SARDA (SOUTH WALES) MOUNTAIN RESCUE SEARCH DOGS operates.

I also thought about the times that I and my daughter, Lily, are out walking in the beautiful and yet, remote countryside, and one day may need the assistance of the SARDA teams.

So I am raising money for a charitable cause that is very important to me so please donate and help me reach my target.

My colleague Mark and his border collie are part of SARDA (South Wales) Mountain Rescu Search Dogs and Central Brecons Team. They work with other organisations, such as the emergency services, to find people who have gone missing across Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecons Beacons) and the valleys of South Wales including in the mountains, the valleys and the urban areas. They search for missing walkers, cyclists, children and vulnerable adults including people experiencing a mental well being crisis or dementia. Most are, thankfully, found safely.

They are volunteers and often have to pay for many of the expenses  involved in supporting their dogs, such as vets bills, and rely on fundraising to maintain and purchase equipment they use, train new dogs and owners, participate in exercises and generally fund their activities when finding people. It's a valuable 365 day, 24 hour service.
