Malachi EV Taxi Hub: Building a Green Future in Phases

My Story

I’m a former tech professional who became a taxi driver to balance my family’s daytime needs with flexible work hours. As a night-shift cabbie working 7 nights a week in Coatbridge, I’ve seen a lack of after-hours support for taxi drivers and the community. I’m launching Malachi EV Taxi Hub to fill this gap, and I need your help to make it happen—one step at a time.

The Vision

Malachi EV Taxi Hub will be an eco-friendly, 24-hour service hub in the heart of Coatbridge, supporting taxi drivers—especially those with EVs—while serving the public with family-friendly amenities & special perks for our emergancy service workers in the NHS, Police & Firefighters. I’ll roll this out in phases to ensure sustainability and success, starting with a small EV taxi fleet to generate income and free up time to develop the hub.

The Plan: A Phased Approach

Phase 1: Launch an EV Taxi Fleet

I’ll purchase 3x Electric Vehicles (totaling £166,000) to start my taxi fleet, creating a passive income stream. I’ll also build a driveway at my property (£3,000), install a charger with a battery backup (£7,000), cover lawyer fees, admin costs, and a buffer (£24,000), and include insurance costs for the vehicles and operations. This will allow me to test the EV market in Coatbridge and build experience for the hub.

Funding Goal for Phase 1: £200,000 to acquire the vehicles, build the driveway, install the charger and Powerwall, and handle legal, admin, insurance, and buffer costs.

Phase 2: Acquire Land and Existing Businesses

Next, I’ll purchase the land & the bussineses which currently run there. I’ll keep these businesses running as-is to generate revenue and use the site as a base for my taxi fleet.

Funding Goal for Phase 2: To be determined based on land and business valuation.

Phase 3: Operate and Expand

While running the current businesses, and taxi fleet, I’ll introduce initial hub amenities like an automated car wash, self-service interior valet, and EV charging stations with discounts for taxi drivers. This phase will help me gauge demand and build a customer base.

Funding Goal for Phase 3: To be determined based on equipment and setup costs.

Phase 4: Build the Main Attractions

Finally, I’ll demolish the existing buildings & construct the core hub (in a phased approach) : a modern roadhouse, an electronic drive-in movie screen with EV charging in the parking lot, a convenience store (with pre-made butchery and bakery products available), a 24-hour laundromat, and an ATM. Daytime amenities will include a nerdy-themed internet café, a pub with drink limits, a barber, nail salon, podiatrist, chiropractor, post office/WH Smith-style shop, and Timsons. On-call tyre puncture repair will be available within 15 minutes.

Eco-Friendly Focus

The hub will be powered by solar panels, small wind turbines, and a large battery storage system, enabling discounted EV charging for taxi drivers and aiming to operate off-grid. This aligns with Coatbridge’s sustainability goals and supports the growing shift to electric vehicles.

Why It’s Feasible

This phased approach minimizes risk by generating income at each step—starting with the taxi fleet, then the existing businesses, and finally the hub’s amenities. We’ll also reduce costs by sharing a single kitchen for the roadhouse, café, and pub. Revenue will come from EV charging fees, rental income from on-site businesses (barber, nail salon, etc.), and sales at the convenience store and roadhouse.

Future Plans

In later phases, I’ll add overnight self-catering accommodation and a day spa to further serve travelers and the community.
