Who are we?
Mirfield Cricket Club is a friendly and community orientated cricket club situated in the heart of Mirfield. We offer a range of cricketing opportunities to those who live locally and further afield starting from our All Stars programme that starts at age 5 all the way through to our open age senior men's and women's teams. We also host different events for the local community and hire out our club for functions.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding to improve the facilities and equipment available at the club to support women and girls in accessing sport in a safe space.
Since we set up our first women's team in 2022, the number of female members at Mirfield Cricket Club has increased year on year and will continue to do so. Due to the layout and configuration of the clubhouse, we are struggling to meet the demands of our growing female numbers in relation to the facilities available and as such our facilities are lacking for those attending our club. The lack of facilities also mean that any visitors that come to the club when we host cricket festivals and other community events such as charity days, we are unable to fully accommodate everyone's needs.
As well as adapting the facilities within the clubhouse, we are also needing to invest in extra equipment and support for our female players. When we started to focus on developing our first women's team, we bought enough equipment to support them as beginners. As we now have over 25 female playing members at the club across two women's teams and an Under 13s girls' team, we are having to increase the quantity and range of equipment that we purchase to enable them to play to the highest standard that they can.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The money raised will be used to develop the clubhouse facilities to add extra female toilets, baby changing facilities and an accessible toilet. It will also be used to develop the changing area so that it can be used by all teams that play at the club. As well as going towards the clubhouse development, a small amount of the money raised will be spent on purchasing new equipment for our women's and girls' teams to use.
Community impact
By completing this work at Mirfield Cricket Club, there will be more inclusive facilities for women and girls. This means that they will not have to wait in a long queue to use the single toilet we currently have and babies can be changed in a discrete place within the clubhouse, preserving their dignity. Increasing the toilet capacity and improving the changing areas also means that people can spend more time accessing sport and creating friendships. It also means that, as a club that is community orientated, we are able to host even more sporting and community events than we already do, bringing everyone from Mirfield and beyond together.
