Your support makes a difference
Aim: We want to enable young people of all ages and backgrounds to be able to enjoy being part of a competitive swimming club.
Swadlincote Swimming Club provides local young people with an opportunity to take part in competitive swimming. Opportunities are given for swimmers to pursue their goals whilst learning the value of teamwork and how to cope with success and failure.
We are raising money to enable local young people from all backgrounds to be part of our excellent and supportive swimming club. Swimming is a life skill and incredibly good for physical fitness. Being part of a competitive swimming club enables swimmers to make lifelong friends whilst also learning how to be resilient and learning what it means to be part of a team.
If you're applying for extra funding, this is a good place to demonstrate why your project is eligible so refer back to the criteria to help complete this section
The costs of competitive swimming can be prohibitive for some families. We are trying to raise money to prevent families from being excluded because they can't afford it. Any extra funding will help us achieve our aim.
Any money raised will be used to reduce the cost of sessions for swimmers or support entry to swimming meets where cost otherwise would prevent entry.
The club is always trying to recruit more members and its coaches and volunteers work hard to promote the sport of swimming, and its benefits to the local community of Swadlincote. The club also has succession plans in place for the next generation of coaches with current swimmers being supported by the club with their coaching qualifications. This has enabled one swimmer to gain employment as a swim assistant at the leisure centre used by the club and two others are exploring the possibility of similar employment opportunities. Any help we can get to support the future of our swimming club is greatly appreciated by the volunteers and the swimmers themselves as it helps them realise their ambitions whilst re-investing into the local community.
The swimming club is always keen to support the local community. As well as competitive swimming the club spends time in the year to organise fundraising initiatives for the local community. Over the last couple of years swimmers (and coaches!) of all ages have taken part in a sponsored swim to raise money for the club and the local foodbank. Swimmers and their families have also been asked to bring in donations that have then been presented to the foodbank with the money raised.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
