When I bought my home, I knew it would need a lot of work, but I didn’t anticipate just how much. What started as a dream renovation has turned into a financial struggle due to constant unexpected surprises.
I've been hit with a number of things that didn't show on the survey report: Wood rot (floor needs to be completely replaced), damp, dodgy electics so a rewire was needed, leaking roof, broken boiler, the walls needed to be knocked down and build up again, it came to light that the existing RSJ wasn't up to spec- so that needed to he replaced, new kitchen (expected).
To keep the project moving, I’ve had to take out a £30,000 loan and use £7,000 on credit cards, but I’ve now hit a wall. I'm working hard—holding down a job and even seeking additional work—but it’s not enough to cover everything, and I'm also trying to do a lot of the work myself.
I’m reaching out for help, not to fund luxuries, but to get the essential renovations done and manage the unexpected debts that came with them. Any donation, no matter the size, would mean the world to me.
I want to be completely transparent: every penny raised will go directly towards the house—covering bills, repairs, and easing the financial burden I wasn’t prepared for and help me pay off the loan that I had to take out.
