22nd February 2024Standing with the Barons l Magna Carta Progress 6
Following its hasty introduction to Parliament at the tail end of last year, The Safety of Rwanda Bill is now being debated in the House of Lords. Members from all parties - including Conservatives - are expressing their profound concern at this proposed legislation.
The spectre of Magna Carta is blown in from Runnymede as more than 800 years on, the country is looking once again to the baronesses and barons to protect the liberty of a few in the face of a power-hungry executive, in order to preserve the universal rights and freedoms of us all.
While the debate continues, at this moment of vital importance we will stand by the Barons as we perform Dreams of Peace & Freedom in Magna Carta centres.
At the same time, we will maintain our social media campaign, sharing their quotes and observations questioning the legality and sense of the bill.
'Now more than ever, we need people who can take the message beyond the enchanted circle of experts and shout the universality of Human Rights from every rooftop.'
Katya Andrusz spokesperson for ODIHR – February 2024
