Hello from the Made Guid Team!
Thank you for your interest in supporting Made Guid. We have been offering local produce, plastic free options and supporting other small local businesses since we opened in 2018.
6 years down the line we are now in our best location on the High Street in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire. We have been boosted by the scale of good support we have received since moving here in January 2024 and have met loads of customers, old and new, who are keen to eat well and make guid choices for themselves and the planet. It's now time for us to up our game to offer the best choice and options for you.
We are crowdfunding for:
£2000 - to help stock the things you have been asking for - more organic produce and alternatives to Ultra Processed Foods
£850 - for a replacement freezer
£750 - for a cargo bike to help us increase our delivery run.
Any additional donations will be used to continue our food workshop programme including our popular Friday Night Dine In, Cookery Workshops and Health and Food Demonstrations. We are hoping to refit our upstairs space into a kitchen prep space with a large table for community eating events.
NEW STOCK
One of the biggest requests we have is for alternatives to Ultra Processed Foods, wider choice of ingredients, especially those that the big supermarkets don't stock and an increase in organic produce. We would love to make this a reality however our cash flow is currently tied up in the stock we hold in the shop. We buy in bulk particularly with our refill stock and the money tied up in this leaves us very little available to help us bring in new products and restock our shelves with the best quality food for our customers.
With your help we will increase our stock of local produce - from honey, jams, chutneys and sauces through to cheese, chocolate, nibbles, coffee, teas and more. The products we supply are from ethical like minded companies, and where possible locally sourced and as natural as possible.
NEW FREEZER
Regular customers will know that our display freezer went off to freezer heaven just before summer and we would like to replace this so that we can get back the local produce we kept in there including local game and pork. We also worked regularly with a vegan food producer who made frozen ready meals and we are looking at having gluten free cook-at-home bread on offer too.
CARGO BIKE
We already deliver to our local area in Dumbarton and Old Kilpatrick and would like to increase our delivery run in the area and do it right instead of using our diesel car for short runs. We are looking for match funding for a Cargo Bike which we are hopeful we can receive part grant funding for and your support will help make this a reality.
WHAT ELSE ARE YOU SUPPORTING
Our Cooking Classes - Made Guid also runs subsidised food and cookery workshops in our space above the shop. By keeping the shop thriving we can continue to run these workshops both on our premises and in outreach locations across the area.
Our Team - We are a team of 7 local people so you would be keeping us employed doing a job that we love.
Our Future - Times are tough out there but we are providing something different and genuinely enjoy our regular chats with our customers. We are not here just for the sales - we are the old fashioned community shop that cares about our customers and we want to be able to go into 2025 thriving and alive with new ideas and stock you want to buy.
The Circular Green Economy - we work with many local and UK producers to offer plastic free options and a circular economy. Our bread, veg and cakes (to name a few) come unwrapped and our milk and juice bottles, coffee beans, shampoo, shower gel and household cleaning products are delivered to us in reusable containers that we send back to be cleaned and reused.
Your support means loads to us no matter how small and we appreciate the time you have given to read about our work and how you can support us.
With Gratitude
Your Made Guid Team - Allison, Drew, George, Gill, Gwen, Jain and Luke
