Cameron loves the outdoors. He is passionate about sport and completed outdoor education at college. He has pursued his dream and moved from the UK to Wanaka in South Island, New Zealand. All his spare time is spent in the outdoors climbing, snowboarding ,biking and fishing. He spent his 24th birthday in the Southern Alps snowboarding in fresh powder with friends. As he was driving his off-road vehicle back home on the 21st of August he was involved in a head on collision with another car containing the South Korean ski team. Cameron survived, but sustained life changing injuries and was airlifted to Christchurch hospital ,where he remains under treatment. He avoided a head injury but has sustained significant fractures in his back and left lower leg. He has had multiple surgeries and faces the challenge of long-term recovery.
Despite his injuries he is incredibly courageous and positive about his future. He will tackle the challenges of rehabilitation and wants to return to Wanaka, to his job and to his love of outdoor pursuits.
The response of friends and family, in New Zealand and the UK has been overwhelming and he is encouraged by lots of practical support. However, financial support is needed for himself and family to cover travel, living expenses, replacement of sporting equipment and other help related to his injuries. His recovery is expected to be slow over 12 months and your support to assist him and family during this time is greatly appreciated. We are thankful that Cameron survived but recognise the tragedy for others involved in the accident. A brief moment in time and lives are lost or changed irrevocably . Your support will help him create a new life.
