"Fine singing from a choir that will go from strength to strength"
CATHEDRAL MUSIC, December 2022
"Luceat translates as 'shine', which is exactly what the choir does"
ORGANISTS REVIEW, December 2021
"A very fine achievement"
JULIAN LLOYD WEBBER, Cellist and Broadcaster
In August 2024, Luceat will return to East Anglia, performing in some of the most beautiful churches in the country. Our programme will celebrate the anniversaries of Charles Villiers Stanford, Edward Cuthbert Bairstow and Anton Bruckner.
We need your help to raise £600. All of our singers are self supporting. They participate for their love of singing, and passion to share glorious repertoire with others. Most of our members are either university students, or early music professionals. Your money will go towards subsidising our significant overhead costs, such as accommodation, transport and subsistence. Thus we are able to go some way in ensuring that no one is denied participating with Luceat because of financial circumstances.
ABOUT LUCEAT
Despite the enormous disruption brought by the pandemic, over the past few years, LUCEAT has managed to maintain a considerable output, including a recording in partnership with the Oxford Vaccine group. Everything we have done has been because of the support of individuals and groups, who have given us such an overwhelming and encouraging beginning to our career.
Over 2024 and 2025 LUCEAT is embarking on a project of liturgical reconstructions from the Renaissance Period. In March 2024, drawing on the latest research, we reconstructed the Coronation Liturgy of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. In October, we will perform music from the pre-Tridentine celebrations for the Feast of St Petronius, patron of Bologna. We hope to put some of this music to disc in 2025.
OUR COSTS
We continue to prioritize supporting young musicians, but are now at the stage where many of our singers are now early-stage professionals. It is right that they can begin to make a living off their talents, and we are determined to support them as such.
In East Anglia, we will be performing at
- Norwich Roman Catholic Cathedral (Mass and Recital)
- Holy Trinity Church Blythburgh (recording venue for the Tallis Scholars)
- St Bartholomew's Orford
- St Peter and St Paul's, Aldeburgh
- St Mary's Woodbridge
Broken down, the costs of our tour are as follows:
- £75 pp for a week's accommodation
- £30 pp for a week's fuel
- c. £30 pp for travel to the area
- £120 pp for a week's food
- £500 venue hire costs
- £60 for score hire/printing
