Lowestoft And District Mencap Society

RCN 233331, Lowestoft

The Unity Centre is a social Centre run by the Lowestoft & District Mencap Society. We are here for support, advice, befriending, signposting, hate crime support as well as running activities such as table top games, console gaming, arts & crafts. We run support groups for example for adults on the autistic spectrum. We have a small community cafe run by warm & caring volunteers & charity shop.

Lowestoft and District Mencap Society is located in The Unity Centre on Milton Road East, near Lowestoft High Street. We are a charity that helps support people with mild to moderate learning disabilities, but everyone in the community is welcome. We strive to offer a warm and caring environment for vulnerable people of all ages in our community that are at most risk of becoming lonely and isolated. We have a charity shop with a small café area, with regular activities for people to take part in, such as arts and crafts workshops, karaoke mornings, Groove dance sessions, and more! Most of our staff are volunteers, because we do this out of a passion for our community and our town - we love to see our community members blossom with a little bit of support and kindness. We have a qualified Nutritional therapist on staff to support people with diet and lifestyle, giving support and education to a healthier way of living.

Some of our younger volunteers started a parallel project (Unity Youth Projects), which now resides in the neighbouring building, The Fort, so that they could use their passion for gaming to bring even more life and support to the community. The Fort is welcome to all ages, and hosts a variety of gaming activities, including PC/console games, card/board games, Virtual Reality, and even Dungeons & Dragons!

Any support we receive towards helping our community is greatly appreciated, and if you are local feel free to pop by The Unity Centre any time for a cup of tea and a chat!
