About us
The work produced under Uncinetti Molesti is cultivated from a burgeoning circle of people based around the globe, all committed to seeking opportunities through their contribution and collaboration to the project. Our crochet work comes from the melting pot of howling imagination generated from the rigid realities of the Covid pandemic, intimate life experiences, and the limitless nature of originality during times of stress.
Uncinetti Molesti embraces the traditions of couture, hand-crafting and embroidery. The one-of-a-kind items are not to be discarded in landfills, but rather cherished and loved forever, as pieces of wearable heirloom artwork. Italy is a country with a very rich tradition of craftsmanship, micro-enterprise and design, yet these pillars of society still have a propensity to prejudice. Uncinetti Molesti travels and transcends, in an ultimate effort to empower ALL artisans, and give voice to silenced minorities.
What do we want to do
Seeking connection with the matriarchs of our yesteryears, we will drive across Italy, village to village, offering practical workshops that focus on hands-on learning of textile fundamentals (crochet and punch needle) and natural dye.
In these workshops, participants will learn the basics of crochet whilst exploring how it can be used in the context of activism and peaceful protest. Along with learning a new and calming skill, all will be encouraged to discuss social issues and collaborate on ideas which will help improve the community.
Furthermore, the project draws on connections; our workshop tools and materials will be given for free to anyone joining the project. We want to work on both wearable and non-wearable items, ranging from hats to corsets to wall-hanging sculptural pieces made of yarn.
