My aim is to raise £1000 to publish and print a book I've put together titled Lockdown 2020 An Artists Perspective for artist Elton Darlo

by Nina Ruth in Manchester, England, United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 15th August 2020 we'd raised £1,021 with 26 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

If I'm lucky enough to raise extra money, firstly i would give 10% of that money to MIND. The rest would be go towards publishing Elton Darlo's second book based on his paintings done in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena terror attack which we've already assembled and have a sample of. This book features his paintings done in the days after the attack and would be released to raise money for a Manchester based charity early next year.

So here we've been stuck in Lockdown. Like many others I've been furloughed. On taking my daily exercise I stumbled upon an old friend. A lovely chap by the name of Elton Darlo. A prolific ousider artist, a true Manchester character with many a fascinating tale to tell, he always has his sketch book and is a master of capturing life just as it is, but with his own unique take on it.

Elton is 72 years old and it's fair to say he came from the school of hard knocks. He's been around the block, sketching his whole life, he's been an Olympic trained wrestler, a painter and decorator and a bouncer at a gay pub in Manchester. He's lived in London and once had two of his artworks featured in 'The Museum of Everything' at the Tate Modern for a short time back in 2010. Coming back to Manchester after the death of his mother, he's spent time being homeless and has suffered with his mental health.  Art is his therapy.

Anyway back to why I'm here...I want to help this man to realise his dream, to have a book of his sketches published and available to buy. They deserve to be seen..

I've been really busy putting together work from his series of Lockdown 2020 sketches, scanning, editing, getting him a social media profile, and finally printed the book as one off hardback. It looks fabulous.

My aim here now is to raise £1000 to get the book 'Lockdown 2020, An Artists Perspective by Elton Darlo published as a paperback and into print in an affordable format, and available to buy within the next 6-8 weeks hopefully.

10% of any profits from this book will be donated to MIND.

The remainder of any profit,  combined with any money we may raise above and beyond our target will go into publishing the second book based on a tribute series of paintings created in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena terror attack which would be released early next year, again to raise funds for charity.

I really do hope you can contribute to this Crowdfunder, any donations however small are appreciated.

Please don't forget if you donate £20 or more you can claim a reward on the blue claim reward buttons.

The estimate for the reward fulfilment dates is conservative, I would hope to be able to have them available before then.

Best Wishes

Janine
