Lochgelly Band is an amateur brass band based in Fife, Scotland. We compete at local and national level but also perform regularly in our local community at events such as Remembrance Sunday, local gala days and Christmas concerts.
As a registered charity we exist not for profit but for the joy of making music and sharing our music. We have approximately 27 registered members and rehearse twice a week in our own hall in the heart of the town of Lochgelly.
We are very fortunate in that we own our own music hall but our building dates back to pre-1850 and as a small charity with limited reserves, it's upkeep can be costly. In 2020 we started a project of renovating our much loved band hall. This was started with two objectives in mind:
In the near future we hope to launch our youth/community band through which we will offer free music tuition and instrument loan to members of the community who may not otherwise have access to it.
We would also like to be able to use our own hall to host concerts and community events - designed to bring band and community together.
The impact of music on mental health and wellbeing is well documented. We have an amazing building in which we want to share our music making with the local community - we just need a little financial support to continue our quest to make it fit for purpose.
We have already raised and spent close to £100,000 on our hall but our next phase of works is a big one - new energy efficient triple glazed windows!
We are working to raise £30,000 to allow us to replace the traditional bespoke timber windows of our band hall. The existing windows have been in place since the early 1900s and are in serious need of replacing but we hope to do this sensitively using the same timber frame from a specialist contractor to preserve the look of our hall. We also need to do this to improve the heat in the hall and reduce our energy consumption.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little more about us and thank you for supporting Lochgelly Band!
