Help build a Water Well #SustFest25 #LocalToGlobal Create access to clean water for children & families in Baffa

by grandfatherfrog in St Albans, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Donate to build a Water Well with AKIFA Foundation #LocalToGlobal - let's build a better world together.

This Crowdfunder is part of #SustFest25. Your donation will help build a NEW Water Well in Baffa - providing clean water for families and children.

AKIFA links St Albans to Baffa; a town affected by clean water shortages, flooding, plastic pollution.

AKIFA provides clean water wells for schools and communities in Baffa, working with a community co-ordinator who oversees the building of the wells, and more environmental and community support.

Whatever you donate will help build ONE NEW WATER WELL  for the children and families living in the Baffa community. One new well costs just over £1000. Every pound you donate will go directly towards the new well.

Photo below is a well funded and built by AKIFA Foundation after a request from a local school.

The Baffa community has no direct access to clean water and people often have to travel miles to fetch clean drinking water. Contaminated water can cause the spread of deadly illnesses, claiming lives and placing financial burdens on families already living in severe poverty.

Over the past five years AKIFA has managed to get 8 new wells built in the town - for schools and residents in the community.

Below you can see work  beginning to dig the borehole for a new well.

AKIFA has cleared plastic pollution from the town's main river, and provided basic food and medical provisions for people who lost their homes and livelihoods in recent flooding.

In Spring 2025 Iqbal and Farhat are in Baffa to oversee the work of their charity. With local colleagues over the past few years they have organised the clear-out of plastic pollution from the town's main river and supported children with uniforms and books for their education. Iqbal has convened conferences with local leaders to discuss environmental issues in the area - including plastic pollution.

They organised food and medical supplies during the 2022 flooding where many people lost their homes. 1745760621_medical_help_flood_relief.png

During previous years with SustFest they have given talks in St Albans on how the environmental crisis is impacting people across the globe, including in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Iqbal and Farhat aim - with #LocalToGlobal - to link the local St Albans community, with the impact of the climate crisis that affect speople NOW across the globe. They have linked St Albans to Baffa - the family's home town in Pakistan, which is now creating strategic reponses to the environmental crisis - helped by the work of AKIFA charity.
