Purchasing & restoring the sole remaining bogies to re-create 10000, Britain's first mainline diesel, which was tragically scrapped in 1968
The Ivatt ‘Twins’, 10000 and 10001 were designed by H.G. Ivatt and built by the LMS at Derby in 1947/8. They were the first main line diesel locomotives and successfully set the shape of UK diesel traction for decades to come.
The Society is intent on righting the wrong when the original locos were scrapped. The project is possible because we were able to obtain an original model 16SVT engine in essentially “nearly new” condition despite its age.
Our current fundraising campaign is to buy the sole remaining spare bogies of the right design, then restore them, together with the chassis. Although they ran under a Class 77 electric loco these bogies are essentially identical to that of 10000’s but do need some restoration before use with our loco.
