Aim: To fill Derby with exciting performances in unexpected places while talking about mental health and building community through participation
WHAT IS LITTLE ED?
Little Ed was launched in Derby in 2018 as a brand new fringe-style festival. It seeks to present performances which are new, edgy and a little bit different in places you wouldn't expect...last year saw poetry in the barber's shop, comedy in a clothes shop and belly dancing in a café.
A coming together of artists, businesses and a whole raft of organisations to create something really special for the city.
As well as this, Little Ed is all about mental health...encouraging conversation (both from the stage and amongst an audience), holding workshops and engaging the community in raising awareness.
We want to build on the success of Little Ed 2018 by bringing in more artists from around the country to venues, businesses and the high street and by providing even more opportunities to get involved in an exciting community-led event. Little Ed 2019 will run in the lead up to Mental Health Awareness week, from Thursday 9th - Saturday 11th May.
WHO WILL DELIVER LITTLE ED?
Little Ed will be delivered by Furthest from the Sea Music, Comedy & Arts CIC. Based in Derby and with over 8 years of experience working across the country to support the arts from the grass-roots up, our not-for-profit community interest company will be working closely with mental health organisations, local businesses, educational establishments and other partners to deliver the festival.
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT?!
The more funding we can get in place, the better the event can be (we can put more time into its organisation and marketing; we can get more great artists to come and perform; we can make better decorations; we can run more free workshops; we can mentor more young volunteers...).
This initial crowd-funding support will open important doors to match funding and other grant opportunities.
