Books for underprivileged children
In the UK, 1 in 3 children live in poverty and 148,000 leave primary school without basic literacy skills, we understand the urgency of addressing these inequalities. Shockingly, 1 in 5 children in the UK do not own a single book, perpetuating the cycle of low literacy skills often associated with poverty. By working directly with children in some of the most deprived areas of the country, we strive to provide access to books and other literacy resources, empowering them to rewrite their stories and envision a brighter future. Together, let's rewrite the narrative and break the chains of poverty through the power of literacy.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
We are dedicated to fostering inclusivity and representation through books by curating a diverse selection that showcases individuals from various ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities such as autism. We believe it's crucial for children to see themselves reflected in literature and to encounter characters from various backgrounds.
Dyslexia and literacy difficulties We provide dedicated resources specifically tailored to support individuals with literacy difficulties including dyslexia as well as reluctant readers.
Disadvantaged voices
We also recognise the importance of amplifying the voices of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, allowing them the opportunity to express themselves through their own written work, whether that be stories, plays or poetry.
