I am a Trustee and Treasurer of The Friendship Cabin. We hold social gatherings on three days each week and the meetings are run by an enthusiastic team of Volunteers. As we look forward to meeting again when conditions allow, we are aware that we need to purchase a number items to protect the safety of all who attend. We currently have limited funding but are aware that we may be needed to provide face visors, face masks, over clothes for our Volunteers. Most of these items will be needed by our members and because of self isolation they have been unable, both physically and economically to obtain for themselves. In order to provide a safe environment the Friendship Cabin will be required to provide this PPE and need to raise the funds to do so. Until the untimely arrival of Covid 19 we had regular weekly sessions when our members met to enjoy a chance to socialise with others currently in the same position.
During those sessions we were able to provide limited physical activities as well as mental stimulation in the form of quizzes and handicrafts. We also invited guest speakers who talked on subjects such as diet, well being, fraud and mental awareness and each day we provided light refreshment and a warm meal. This being particularly welcome to some who were socially deprived and living alone. Our future plans are to re-commence at the venues used before being forced to close and as well as current members we have a waiting list with the possibility of adding a further day to our schedule. We are fully aware that new conditions will apply which may mean considering social distancing but this will be covered by extending session times. As always it is the aim of the Friendship Cabin to introduce people back into the community and give to them much needed social time.
