Pot Bound is a small independent shop in Lytham St.Annes that sells houseplants, bespoke hand painted pots, local artists work and a huge range of crystals and spiritual gifts. We are also the only LGBTQ+ space in the area that isn’t a nightclub, and we are very proudly gay. We work with Youth Pride and host workshops every year at Blackpool pride; and Stonewall, providing information, education and support for those who need it.
Over the year we have been open, 10 young people have come out to Iz in the shop. Almost all of them saying that they haven’t told anyone else, but that they felt comfortable to talk about it with Iz. The rainbow doormat and bunting, our selection of pride themed jewellery and artwork, the ‘Protect Trans Youth’ sign on the window, and the LGBTQ+ owned sign on the door are all indicators that we are a safe place, and clearly it is extremely needed in our town.
We have been in the paper a few times for our work with our community but it’s just not enough. Our goal is to host LGBTQ+ events for people, where they can explore their identity through painting and interacting with nature, but this needs funds!
Our community suggested starting a crowdfunder to help us put on some of these vital events and extend our reach so that we can help as many LGBTQ+ people as possible.
