Let's get the Green Party on Leeds Ballot Papers!

It costs £500 to stand one candidate in the General Election. 

Standing a candidate in every constituency in the General Election gives the people of Leeds the option to vote for a Green voice — something we desperately need to help us on our quest to create a Fairer, Greener Leeds. It also raises the profile of the Green Party locally, while each vote we win increases the government funding given to our MPs nationally, also known as 'short money.'

We have 6 great candidates we are fully funding: Christopher Foren in Leeds Central & Headingley, Louise Jennings in Leeds North East, Jennifer Norman in Leeds East, Mick Bradley in Leeds North West, Ann Forsaith in Leeds West & Pudsey and Ed Carlisle in Leeds South. And also 4 great candidates we are part funding as their funding is shared with other parties: Chris Bell in Leeds South West & Morley, Ashley Routh in Rothwell & Wakefield, Angela Oldershaw in Selby and Arnold Warneken in Wetherby & Easingwold.

They’re all ready to stand up and be a strong voice and give Real Hope, Real Change!

We are extremely proud to be able to offer people the chance to vote for us but, as a grassroots party, we can't rely on rich individuals and big business donations to clear the path to democracy for us. Due to the election being called at very short notice, we haven't been able to save up for this election as we would have liked, so we need to raise money urgently! 

With your help we’re looking to raise £3,750 to pay our deposits. This money will go towards getting Christopher, Louise, Mick, Ed, Chris, Ashley and Angela on the ballot papers. But we would like to achieve more, raising a further £5,600, which will help us pay to deliver a Green Party election leaflet to every household in Leeds, spreading the word about the Green message.

If 10 people give £50, that'll get us on one ballot paper

If 100 people donate £35 we will hit our target

£20 lets us deliver leaflets to 1000 voters

Our members have already been working extremely hard to pick up the bulk of our costs, but we do need that final push from all those supporters and activists out there who believe in equality not poverty, public services in public hands, good water quality for our rivers and seas, affordable housing for all and the need to take urgent action to tackle the Climate Emergency.

Short money explained:

1.) Your donation gets a Green candidate for Parliament able to challenge the old parties.

2.) By helping our candidates to stand in Leeds, your donation enables all the votes they receive to translate into government funding for the Green MPs selected elsewhere.

3.) If our candidates retain their deposit, those funds come back and can be spent by the Green Party again, so we can keep building strength both locally and nationally.

PS – BECAUSE WE’RE A POLITICAL PARTY

We’re required to run electoral checks from people making donations above £500, and if you donate over £1500 during a year, we are required to let the Electoral Commission know, who will make this available on their website. All donations go to general Leeds Green Party funds.
