The community have been able to rely on the workshop, being open almost every Thursday for the last 5 years (other than the first 2 months of Covid). It would be a real shame if it could not stay stay open for lack of funding, particularly now when so many people are struggling with the costs of living increases as it is.
I've been running the Whitehawk Bike Workshop for over 5 years now. Originally The Council asked me to run it, because there are no other bike maintenance facilities in the area. They provided funding to buy the tools and for my time to run it for about 6 months. Since then, with the help of old and new friends, we've fixed hundreds of bikes for the good people of Whitehawk. I've lost count of the number of people who have said it's been great seeing kids riding bikes in the area again now they can get their bikes fixed. Since the council funding ran out we've received generous funding from numerous places but the last funding we got is running out fast. Every little helps…
The fundraising event is riding from London to Edinburgh (actually we go all the way up to bloody Dunfermline!) and back again, in 5 days. If it all goes to plan I’ll get about 4 hours sleep each night. And I don’t expect it will go to plan…
