Legal right to work in the USA

So I happened to fall in love with an American!! I'm from the UK and have never wanted to live in the USA but my new wife cares for her elderly mother, so the only way we could be together was for me to come to the US until her mother passes away 😞. That being said we hope she has many more years in her, so I need to get a SSN so I can work to support my little family. In the US you can't work, drive or do anything without a Social security number so I'm going round in circles! My wife as just completed breast cancer treatment so not been able to do a lot. I just need a few people to believe in me and help me get the money together to pay for the legal paperwork so I can start working, I'm even willing to pay people back.
