Aim: Nora is one of the #Cardiff19 pro-Palestine activists that has been convicted recently and now faces significant costs with legal processes.
On 3rd June 2024, South Wales Police launched an unprecedented crackdown on pro-Palestine activists. Over 19 arrests were made in less than 48 hours, including a disabled activist, students, a 12-year-old Palestinian child and her mother. Nora was one of the activists that got arrested.
Sit-ins and demonstrations were met with brutal attacks and assaults by the police. The emergency protest was to oppose the imminent invasion of Rafah in the ongoing genocide.
As a result of this crackdown, 19 activists were forcibly removed and arrested and all charged with a range of offenses from obstructing a public highway to 'locking on'. Many of these charges used against the Cardiff 19 were brought in as part of the Public Order Act 2023, which significantly increases police powers.
This politically motivated piece of legislation was drafted with the intention to aggressively criminalize protesters who are attempting to hold the state accountable for their complicity in climate destruction and now their participation in the ongoing genocide.
After 5 grueling days of intense trial in March 2025, Nora alongside 4 other defendants from the 1st trial group were found guilty on all charges and were convicted with conditional discharge of 3 years and Level 4 fine of £2500 each despite the fact that the judge recognized that the protest was peaceful, non-violent and that the conventional human rights were engaged.
The actions of the 19 defendants came as part of an international effort to stand unwavering in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggles against both the apartheid and the genocide. The UK Government has aided and abetted the military state of Israel for far too long, while persecuting those who stand up for international law, liberation and justice.
This crowdfunding is organised to support Nora with the costs associated with her legal proceedings as she and her comrades continue to stand for Palestine and the Palestinian people knowing that they remained steadfast on the right side of history in continuing to highlight the unspeakable horrors being supported by the UK Gov. and ultimately fight to defend her right to protest in the UK. Always with hope and solidarity...THANK YOU! x
