FUNDING

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING - to attend further training which would give me life-long teaching qualifications. This would qualify me to teach participants Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) the use of an Auto External De-Fibrillator (AED), First Aid, Oxygen therapy and Anaphylaxis.

BRAYDEN MANIKINS - to purchase 2 Brayden Manikins that would assist participants on the practical skills of CPR. The LED light shows blood flow to the brain and demonstrates effective CPR.

AUTO EXTERNAL DE-FIBRILLATOR (AED) TRAINERS MACHINE - to purchase a trainers AED machine and pads to show participants the use of the device, allow practical skills and build confidence.

TRAINERS FIRST AID KIT - to purchase kits to provide to participants to practice first aid using bandages. Once issued participants may wish to keep the kit.

TRAINING MATS - for ease and comfort for participants during practical skills.

MANIKIN ACCESSORIES - to purchase cleaning supplies such as manikin wipes to be used in between participant practices, manikin airways to be changed at every session and spare batteries.

POCKET MASKS - to use as part of ventilation in CPR training as an alternative to mouth to mouth.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CARDIO - PULMONARY RESUSCITATION     (CPR)

What is sudden cardiac arrest?

It occurs when heart function ceases abruptly and without warning. The heart is no longer able to pump blood to the rest of the body.

Statistics indicate that 70%-80% of cardiac arrest cases occur either in the home or at public places. In such cases, the person nearest at hand to the victim is often a bystander with no medical expertise such as a relative, an office colleague, or a passer-by. If those present at the scene are able to provide CPR to the victim promptly, the latter’s chances of survival are significantly increased.

This is because "Time is the Essence" when treating a cardiac arrest victim. Once the heart stops beating and blood flow stops, a person will lose consciousness within 15 seconds. Within another 30 to 60 seconds, he will stop breathing, and irreversible damage to his brain cells will follow after several minutes of oxygen deprivation.

An AED is a small, lightweight and portable electronic device that delivers an electric shock through the chest wall of a person whose heart has stopped beating. It is proven to be one of the most important tools in saving the life of someone suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.

At its most basic, first aid is the initial assistance given to a victim of injury or illness. Comprised of relatively simple techniques that can be performed with rudimentary equipment, first aid is usually carried out by a layperson until professional medical assistance arrives.

Becoming First Aid certified not only benefits you as an individual but it extends to your family, friends, co-workers and even the community as a whole.

Knowing First Aid can make the individual more than a bystander. By taking proper  First Aid classes, the individual could be the difference between life and death for the victim.

About me:

I am General Adult and Mental Health Nurse  with 34 years experience working in wide variety of settings within NHS. I have 18 years experience teaching Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External De-Fibrillation ( AED) to my colleagues at work. My skills, knowledge and real life experience would benefit many people to save the life of another which may include family, friends, colleagues including  members of the public.

My aim is to offer these Life Saving skills to members of the public, schools, communities and businesses to increase public confidence and raise awareness on the importance of this. I propose to have training sessions on various courses such as CPR, AED, First Aid and Anaphylaxis  or a  combination of these to allow people to have the skills they require to assist save a life before the arrival of professional medical staff. The training would also include basic anatomy of the function of the heart. Participants would complete the course with a certificate of competency which would be valid for one year, in the case of First Aid 3 years. Renewals and update training would be offered. Advice and guidance would be available from trainer. Training can be facilitated in your place of work.

Life -Saving skills is not limited to health care professionals. Most large organizations provide health and safety training, but first aid and CPR is often overlooked.

It is an important role for anybody who  witnesses life threatening conditions from cardiac arrests, anaphylaxis, choking, whether you work in a hotel, office, restaurant, or walking in the street. Every little helps. Even putting somebody in the recovery position or giving reassurance.

THE BENEFITS OF CPR & FIRST AID

  • Becoming safety aware in your workplace thus reducing the number of accidents.
  • Saves lives particularly where there are grave injuries and it is critical to take immediate action.
  • Training gives knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively manage an emergency without fear or confusion.
  • Knowledge of contents in your emergency equipment and how to use them properly.
  • Great team building exercise, one that will help you look after one another.

To save the life of one is as if you have saved the whole of mankind.
