Lindley’s Community Weekend is at risk because of a loss of council funding. Lindley Community Group organises the weekend (this year on the 28th, 29th and 30th June) which comprises of a Friday Night Street Party, the Carnival on Saturday, concluding with a fun run and 10km race on Sunday.
The very popular event is funded by a council grant, sponsorship, race fees and charitable gifts, and all events (except races) are free to visit.
Sadly, our local council has had to reduce its grant towards the event, which normally makes up the bulk of the £25,000+ it will cost for the weekend.
The Street Party takes place on Lidget Street on the Friday evening, with live music, stalls, food trucks, and fairground rides. It’s followed on Saturday by the carnival on Fern Lea Recreation Ground, where there is a fabulous motorbike stunt artist, as well as live music, bars, stalls and food, and a fairground. The weekend is rounded off by the children’s fun run and The Lindley 10km Race on Sunday morning.
The weekend is a mammoth organising task and deposits have to paid early to make sure that the event can proceed. Money is required to pay for sound and stage, performers, security and equipment, traffic management and myriad other expences.
Any donation that you can give towards the £10,000 we hope to raise would help make sure that this award-winning event can continue.
Thank you.
