Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company is a totally inclusive organisation providing Musical Theatre education to anyone from the age of 4 years and upwards, regardless of ability. Our Ethos is ‘Respect, Encouragement and Commitment’. We respect the fact that everyone is different, we encourage members to do the best they can and we are committed to showing that Inclusion works.
We hold our Musical Theatre workshops in a friendly, family environment. These can range from learning original songs, as well as commercially available ones (with British Sign Language) performing original scripts, or improvising in groups on a given subject, to dance/movement sessions. Sessions could even include the use of Music Technology to record vocals, voice-overs, or special effects, for example.
Prior to 2020, we performed twice a year at the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange, as well as performing at many ‘outside’ events and venues throughout the year.
With us, members develop and improved existing skills and use techniques to recognize their own strengths - everyone has something to offer.
At ‘LHMTC’, everyone is treated as an individual and all are welcome and there are no auditions. For some of our members, this may be the only outside activity in their lives where they get a chance to be 'somebody' and express themselves in an informal, fun and friendly atmosphere.
The group was founded in February 2001 with 15 members. We have no paid staff - we rely solely on our dedicated team of volunteers and prior to 2020, they spent many hours each week attending to the needs of all the members and arranged whatever was necessary in order for the group to continue moving forward. As a result of our work, our membership exceeded 80, we had a strong Trustee and General Committee and were (and still are) a Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee.
Engaging with the community and being invited to perform at other organisations' events is something that became popular over the last few years (for example The Royal British Legion, Rotary, Lions and suchlike) as well as giving our members a chance to shine and demonstrate what they learned by performing in our Pantomime and Variety or Christmas Shows.
Over the years, we have received many accolades for our work. These include 'The Shakespeare Cup' (2008-2011 - Hunstanton Festival), 2014 'Mayor's Award' (King's Lynn), 'NODA' Best Pantomime (Region E4N - 2019), 'NODA' Councillor's Cup (Eastern Region - 2019).
Since November 2021, we have been striving to regain what was lost in 2020 as we still feel there is a need for what we do - and to continue to 'Make A Difference To Those Who Need A Difference'
