Help us get laptops to local children by donating today. Over 2500 Southwark pupils are still without access to a computer.
by London South TSA in London, England, United Kingdom
With schools closed as a result of a third national lockdown, most children are once again, learning from home.
Southwark's schools have worked hard to get pupils online, working with the council to access and distribute computers from the government, as well as lending their existing school computers and doing their own fundraising.
However, this has not been enough to bridge the 'digital divide’ in Southwark.
A survey of local schools has found that more than 2500 disadvantaged Southwark pupils are still without access to a computer. This is preventing them from engaging fully with remote education and putting them at risk of falling behind.
Whilst we hope that it will be safe for schools to reopen for face-to-face learning soon, we recognise that we need to act now to minimise the amount of learning time missed.
Access to a computer is vital for all Southwark children, not only for their education but for their wellbeing now and the rest of their school lives.
London South Teaching School Alliance are raising funds to buy computers for 2500 Southwark pupils, with support and match-funding from Southwark Council.
1. Donate towards our campaign: The best and quickest way to help is to donate to our campaign. This will enable us to buy and deliver laptops to Southwark children and young people who need them.
2. Donate laptops: If you are a business and you have laptops that you don't need, email [email protected] to see whether these can be repurposed for local schools. View our minimum requirements for donating laptops to the campaign here.
3. Donate your time: If you are a digital or IT company that can help refurbish second-hand laptops, please email [email protected]
Donations will be used to buy laptops for schools for the benefit of Southwark children and young people who need them. Some funds may also be used for internet connections or refurbishment and set-up of old equipment.
If we raise more than required, surplus funds or computers will be used for other Southwark groups experiencing digital exclusion.
London South Teaching School Alliance and Research School are working to support schools with high quality teacher training, professional development and school improvement support. Our vision is to build better futures for Southwark pupils through collaboration.
