2Lancashire Youth Brass Band was formed in 1960 and has been offering young musicians throughout Lancashire the opportunity to develop their skills under the direction of experienced tutors and conductors for more than 60 years.
The Musical Director is Helen Minshall, who took over the role in 2015, and is constantly working on its development and improvement. Supporting tutors are Brian Taylor (cornet), Jay Hall (trombone), Neil Raisbeck (tenor horn) and Trevor Bartlett (percussion).
The band caters for players from around Grade 3 standard upwards, and the current age range is 8 -18. The band rehearses on alternate Saturdays at St Michael’s School in Chorley, from 10am – 3.30pm. During the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 the band members showed tremendous resilience, and the band continued to work hard, rehearsing online and supporting each other.
The band enjoys an annual residential course at Borwick Hall near Carnforth, where they have the opportunity to work with guest tutors, including in recent years Richard Evans, Ewan Easton and Simon Cowen. The band recently performed at the National Youth Brass Band Championships in March 2022, and won a Silver Award in the Championship Section.
The band is developing excellent working relationships with adult bands of all standards throughout the North West of England, paving the way for young players to progress to adult bands, and to keep this fine British tradition alive for future generations.
The band is currently looking forward to a 4 day tour to the Isle of Man in July, with performances in Ramsey and Douglas, and the purpose of this current fund raising campaign is to help bring the cost down to make the tour affordable for parents. We want to make the tour an amazing experience for our young people and to help their development as musicians as well as enhance their overall education.
