to provide new underwear for children of struggling families in our community. We give preloved clothing but can’t give preloved underwear

Shiremoor and Backworth Community Group

We are a group of volunteers, all mums, who provide food and clothing to families in our community in desperate need. This virus has had a massive impact on the poor, and plunged many more into poverty. It can happen to any of us.

We receive referrals from individuals within the community, charities and health cate professional. Whatever the need, the community responds by donating the goods needed or signposting to the relevant help. We then get these items to the family in need. Our referrals range from families fleeing domestic violence, families in mental health crisis, or families waiting prolonged periods with no income for Universal Credit. There are many more examples.

The problem we have is we can’t give children preloved underwear. Every child should have new knickers. Some families can’t even afford a loaf of bread, never mind new clothing. Therefore we need a ‘knicker fund’.
