KMJ Foundation will achieve this through:
Providing safe and supportive youth activities and services for therapeutic Support.
Delivering skills training: around therapeutic arts and creative support, physical health, mental health and emotional wellbeing, and social environmental action programmes to enable young people to engage in inclusive and supportive activity, which will help improve their confidence, health, wellbeing and skills.
Establishing informal learning/peer groups run by the 'young people',
Promote the value of using knowledge and life-long learning to recover and transform their lives.
Currently we are developing "it takes a village" workshops and activities that empower, enable, encourage an urgent response to the emotional circumstances that vulnerable and marginalised young people face.
KMJ Foundation recognises that some mental health issues and need commonly occur in young people 12-25 include .
- Depression affects more young people today than in the last few decades. Teenagers are more likely to experience depression than young children.
- Self-harm which is a frequent problem among young people. Some young people who experience intense emotional pain may try to deal with it by hurting themselves.
- Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) which can cause young people to become extremely worried..
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which can follow physical or sexual abuse, witnessing something extremely frightening or traumatising, being the victim of violence or severe bullying or surviving a disaster.
- Young people who are consistently overactive, impulsive and have difficulty paying attention may have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
- Eating disorders which usually start in the teenage years and are more common in girls than boys.
