I returned home to find 6-7 inches of water on the floor, pouring in from the flat above. The water was turned off & the fused lights fixed. Tried to claim on my neighbour’s insurance policy but told could only claim through own. A bulge of water in the ceiling moved into the wall ripping the plasterboard from around the window & door frame.
An independent insurance evaluator was sent to assess the situation. And concluded the existing cracks on the exterior of the building were responsible for the inside damage. A cheque was paid out to repairs cracks in kitchen ceiling - £500 cheque ($901.39 minus £400 excess I had to pay). And my annual premium changed by the same amount as the (uncashed) cheque.
No mention made of water-logged kickboards or worktops. I appealed the findings, but heard nothing back. I am a disabled woman who lives on my own, on benefits & I struggle financial so can’t afford to repair the mess made by an accident I solely appear to be getting held responsible to fix. I therefore need some help raising funds.
