Aim: We’re creating an inclusive rescue farm where vulnerable and neurodiverse children can connect with animals for healing, learning, and joy.
Who are we, and what is our project about?
We are Chris and Laura, co-founders of Kind Creatures Community Interest Company — a not-for-profit social enterprise based in Ely, Cambridgeshire. As a neurodivergent couple, we’re creating the kind of place we wish had existed when we were children: a calm, inclusive, off-grid rescue farm where vulnerable animals and children with additional needs can heal and grow together.
We’ve already purchased 6.5 acres of land, and now we’re transforming it from bare ground into a safe, welcoming space that rescues unwanted or underperforming farm animals — like ponies, pigs, goats, donkeys and hens — and uses those animals to deliver hands-on, therapeutic learning sessions for children with special educational needs, trauma backgrounds, or social exclusion.
Many of the children we support are neurodivergent, anxious, or have experienced exclusion from mainstream education. Through gentle animal care, sensory-based learning, and calm routines, we help them build confidence, empathy, life skills, and emotional wellbeing in a non-judgemental space.
This project also supports families under pressure by offering low-cost or free access to a meaningful alternative for their children — with future plans to offer supported volunteering and employment opportunities too.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We’ve secured the land, but the site is still a blank canvas. To bring Kind Creatures to life, we need to raise £35,000 to build the essential infrastructure and get our outreach programme up and running. This includes the basics to keep animals safe and cared for, and the equipment we need to bring the animals directly to schools and children’s groups while our on-site facilities are developed.
This funding will allow us to:
Begin rescuing animals safely
Create mobile, inclusive learning experiences
Build accessible infrastructure that supports long-term inclusion
We want to launch our outreach programme by early 2026, with the long-term goal of opening the farm to schools, families, and SEN support services across the region.
What will the money pay for?
Your support will help us fund the essentials to launch:
A trailer and vehicle to transport animals to schools and care settings
Mobile paddocks and enclosures for safe animal handling during outreach
Animal shelters and secure fencing on-site to begin rescue work
Feed, bedding, grooming supplies and veterinary care for our animals
Sensory learning tools and educational equipment for children
Trees and wildflower planting to create shade, biodiversity, and sensory calm
DBS checks, insurance, and volunteer training
A secure storage unit or shed for equipment and feed
Community outreach, signage, and promotional materials
Open days and inclusive events to welcome families
First-year admin and running costs to keep the project on track
This funding will allow us to rescue animals, reach children, and build strong foundations for long-term impact.
How you can help
There are three simple ways to support Kind Creatures:
1. Make a donation
Every pledge — big or small — helps us take the next step. Early donations are especially powerful and show others we’re worth backing.
2. Spread the word
Share this campaign with friends, family, schools, or local businesses. Awareness is just as powerful as money.
3. Volunteer with us
Got time, tools, or experience to share? We’d love your help. Contact us through the page with the subject line "I want to volunteer".
Together, we can create a rescue farm where animals and children are both given a second chance — to feel safe, valued, and free to grow.
Thank you so much for believing in us. 💚
