How we got here
Our town is in real need of some TLC, but more than that - it needs people to care about it again! Kettering is a lovely place to live and it has so much potential but one of the things that has let it down in recent years is it has started to look quite run down. Businesses are stretched and looking after their shop frontages is not a top priority, and the council has been forced to make some cuts and it shows. We are asking the council and businesses to support this effort, but together as members of the community there is a huge amount we can do to help. So that's what we plan to do!
The vision
We want to focus our efforts mostly on the town centre to get it looking better, but really we hope this efforts sparks action all over town.
We will be cleaning graffiti off walls, picking up litter, cleaning shop frontages, cleaning bus stops, putting up artwork to cover long-term empty shops and to cover up eyesores that we cannot fix short term.
We are repainting unloved areas and planting town centre planters with flowers to give them some colour again. We are also installing cameras to try to reduce antisocial behaviour to keep it looking nice.
What we need money for
- Cleaning supplies eg. sponges and buckets for cleaning shop frontages, graffiti cleaning spray, gum remover scrapers etc.
- Vinyls to go into empty shop windows
- Possibly cameras if we cannot get these donated/supplied
Whilst we are pushing the local council and businesses to do more going forward, we want to take action as local people and show our town some love.
In partnership with a number of local Wombles groups, local Fire and Police teams, cadets, scouts, schools, Rotary groups, businesses and more, we aim to make a huge difference to how our town looks and feels - and we want you to be a part of it!
